St. Joe Man Garners Child Pornography Charge

Authorities in Florence, Alabama report that a Saint Joseph man who had been released from a Wisconsin jail under bond, was arrested there on child pornography charges Wednesday.

Matthew Thomas Haislip, age 30, of 502 South Main Street, Saint Joseph, was booked through the Lauderdale County Detention Center on charges that he attempted to possess child pornography.

Haislip was arrested in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in September for the alleged sexual abuse of a boy under the age of 13. Authorities indicate the abuse had occurred throughout a three-year period.

Alabama warrants had been issued against Haislip in February, however authorities had been unable to locate him. They received a tip Wednesday indicating that Haislip was staying at a Spurr Street, Florence home.

Agents with the U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested Haislip on an outstanding warrant, and detained him at the Florence jail.

While Haislip was incarcerated authorities learned that a package shipped from England and addressed to him, had been delivered to the Spurr Street address. They said the package contained a camera and two videos.

After obtaining a warrant the videos were reviewed and agents discovered it contained images of child pornography.

Because the package was never actually received by Haislip, he was charged with attempting to possess child pornography.

Haislip remains incarcerated in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
